I have to modify the ear file so that the jar files that it contains don't have any version number in their filename.
For example commons-io.jar instead of commons-io-2.4.jar.
For that I used the expression <fileNameMapping>no-version</fileNameMapping> in the pom file.
With the version in the filenames, the application starts in WebSphere without problems.
Unfortunately, without the version I get the following error:

Your EJB module cannot find the interface:
It is probably defined in the other JAR. You need to fix classpath in the Manifest.MF file for your EJB module to point to correct jar. Probably due to omitting version names, the file name has changed and cannot be found any more.
