I've recently moved over to Mac OS (M1 ARM64 processor) for development and managed to get most things working on my current project (spring boot with postgres), however the integration tests are causing issues. I'm using embedded-postgres with default docker provider to act as the postgres instance for these tests.
With the docker driver the tests are slow, twice as slow they were on windows. Problem is there's several hundred of these tests and I don't want my new computer to make things slower. 8 mins up to 16 mins is an unacceptable jump for the amount of times this suite of tests are run.
I tried using the Zonky provider and noticed a massive speed up (the whole suite goes from 16 mins to 3 mins), however halfway through the tests start failing with the following error:

If I rerun the failing tests they pass. I can't work out why this is happening, my current assumption is that loads of connections are being made to the database and not getting released which is leading to the database kicking me out after a while..? Has anyone come across this before?
It would be lovely not to have to settle for the slower docker provider.
EDIT: I added the following property:
zonky.test.database.postgres.server.properties.max_connections=1000 which allowed it to get past a few more tests..but still failed with the same error eventually. It looks like it's trying to create a new connection to the database every time I run any code that reads/writes to the database..?
Ok I think I've found the issue. The tests leading up to the ones which failed were kicking off asynchronous worker threads which touched the underlying database. When the tests ran slowly the asynchronous jobs were completed by the time it ran the next test, not so in the fast versions. When it came to the threads touching the databases, the test had already completed and closed the datasource connection, hence the error.
