can't override cart page created by default on woocommerce

I'm attempting to edit the cart page in WooCommerce. I copied the content of cart.php from the core plugin and pasted it into a file named cart.php in a folder named woocommerce/cart, located within my child theme directory. I made a few changes to see if they would appear, but the page is still blank. What might I be missing?

It looks like you're using the cart block on your cart page while customizing and overriding the classic cart template. If you want to use your customized cart template, you'll need to replace the cart block with the cart shortcode.
